Our Earth stratosphere consists of an Ozone layer.This ozone layer protects our planet by absorbing the harmful ultraviolet raditions and preventing them from entering the atmosphere.

Most popular and commonly used CFC refregirants contain chlorine which react with ozone thereby depleting it. This depletion allows the ultraviolet raditions to reach the earth, thus causing great damage to life on earth. India being a signatory to the Montreal protocol, has to adopt all measures to phase out CFC completely by the year 2010.
